six-and-out

Also: six and out

A backyard-cricket rule under which hitting a six over the nominated boundary also puts the batter out.

In a sentence

The fence was the boundary, so every six was six-and-out.

Where it came from

A compressed statement of the backyard-cricket rule: a hit scoring six is also out. Hyphenation varies. Multiple independent backyard-cricket rules describe six-and-out: a six over a boundary ends the batter's innings, usually with ball retrieval.
